A Stone That Fits a Belly Button

On April 24, 2023, I spent the entire day lying down and watching the sea. When I picked up a stone from the beach, it was round and smooth, and it felt pleasant to the touch. I picked up the stone and, on a whim, placed it in my navel, where it fit perfectly. The warmth of the stone, heated all day by the sun, transferred to me through my navel, giving me a strange feeling. As I slowly inhaled and exhaled, the stone in my navel gradually became more attuned to my body, and I felt as though I had formed a special connection with the Earth.

2023 年4 月24 日、一日中寝転がって海を見ていた。砂浜の石を手に取ると、丸くてスベ スベしていて、心地よい感じがした。その石を拾って、なんとなくヘソにはめてみたら、ぴっ たりと私のヘソにはまった。一日中太陽で温められた石の暖かさが、ヘソから私に伝わっ てきて、不思議な気分になった。息をゆっくり吸って吐くと、ヘソにはまった石が少しず つ私の身体に馴染んで、なんだか地球とちょっと特別な関係を結べたような気持ちが した。
This work explores how humans might reconnect with the Earth through their bodies.
Each of the small stones placed on the pedestal is exactly the right size to fit into the artist’s belly button—stones that the artist found while lying on the beach.
When a sun-warmed stone fits perfectly into the belly button, it creates a sensation as if the body and the stone become one.
This act is simple, yet something anyone can try. Precisely because of that simplicity, it holds the potential to offer many people a small but meaningful way to feel connected to the Earth once again.
この作品は、人間が身体を通じて地球とつながり直す方法を模索したものである。台座の上に置かれた小さな石は、すべて作者のヘソにぴったりと収まるサイズであり、作者自身が海辺に寝転がりながら探し出したものだ。
太陽で温められた浜辺の石がヘソにはまると、自分の体と石が一体化するような感覚が生まれる。この行為はささやかでありながら、誰にでも実践できるものであり、だからこそ、多くの人にとって地球と再びつながるきっかけとなり得る。
