As I sank into the sea, I repeatedly chanted words of wishes and prayers. My voice turned into bubbles that rose to the surface, and my prayers dissolved into the sea.

海に沈みながら、願いや祈りの言葉を何度も唱えました。
声は泡になって、水面へと上昇し、祈りは海に溶けていきます。

This video work embodies the artist’s belief that art is an attempt to see the invisible and hear the inaudible—a form of prayer itself.

In the film, the artist sinks deep into the ocean, repeatedly chanting words of prayer. Yet beneath the water, the voice loses its sound and cannot reach anyone’s ears. Instead, the words become visible as bubbles, rising gently toward the surface.

For the artist, who began creating art after the Great East Japan Earthquake, the sea holds a profound meaning as the place where many lives were taken by the massive tsunami. That is precisely why praying underwater was necessary.

In the depths of the ocean, the artist continues to pray:

Don’t die.

Be happy.

May the sea stay blue.

この作品は、「芸術とは見えないものを見て、聞こえないものを聞く試みであり、祈りそのものである」という作者の考えを体現した映像作品である。

映像の中で、作者は海の中へと深く沈みながら、何度も祈りの言葉を唱える。しかしその声は、水中で音を失い、誰の耳にも届かない。代わりに祈りの言葉は泡となって可視化され、水面へと静かに昇っていく。

東日本大震災をきっかけに制作を始めた作者にとって、海は大津波によって多くの人々を奪った、特別な意味を持つ場所でもある。だからこそ、海の中で祈るという行為が必要だった。

作者は海中で、次のように祈り続ける。

死なないで。
幸せでいて。
海が青いままでありますように。
