Goldfish have been selectively bred by human hands for centuries in the pursuit of visual beauty.
They are usually kept in very small fish tanks.
I felt that the way goldfish are treated resembled how women are often treated.
So I wanted to cross the ocean with a goldfish—to escape to somewhere far away.
Goldfish cannot survive in the sea. Nor can I.
But I believed that together, we could cross the ocean.

金魚はより美しい見た目になることを求められ、長い時間をかけて人の手で品種改良され続けてきました。

This work is a magic realism–style video piece, rooted in feminist thought.
It features the artist crossing the sea with a goldfish in a small plastic bag.
Goldfish are bred and controlled for their outward beauty, often kept in confined, artificial environments. The artist saw in the goldfish a reflection of the conditions faced by women—expected to be beautiful, restricted, and controlled. Wanting to escape that reality, the artist set out on a journey across the sea with the goldfish.
Neither goldfish nor humans can survive in the ocean.
But together, they can cross it.
The work embodies a sense of cross-species solidarity and feminist empowerment.
この作品は、フェミニズムの思想を背景に制作された、マジックリアリズム的な映像作品である。
映像には、小さな袋に入った金魚とともに海を渡る作者の姿が映し出される。
金魚は、外見的な美しさを求められ、人工的に管理・繁殖される存在であり、多くの場合、非常に狭い空間で飼育されている。作者はこの金魚の状況を、女性の置かれた状況と重ね合わせ、金魚とともにどこか遠くへ逃げたいと願い、海を渡る旅に出た。
