What was left at the site destroyed by the tsunami were broken houses, furniture, and tape that read 'DO NOT ENTER.' It felt unfair that it was the sea that shouldn't have come in, and I was overwhelmed with frustration, wanting to stop the sea.

津波で破壊された場所に残されていたのは、壊された家と家具とDO NOT ENTERと書かれたテープだった。
入ってきてはいけないのは海の方なのに、なんだか無性に悔しくて、海を止めようと思った。
This work is one of Kyunchome’s early pieces, created in response to the Great East Japan Earthquake and the devastating tsunami that followed in 2011.
In the video, the artist draws a tape marked “DO NOT ENTER” along the shoreline, keeping it parallel to the sea. This simple act is a direct expression of the strong wish to stop the tsunami. However, as the tape extends further, it is caught by the sea breeze and eventually ripped by the wind.
The work captures the moment where the overwhelming power of the sea—far beyond human control—meets a human’s desperate prayer.
この作品は、2011年に起きた東日本大震災と、それに伴う大津波を受けて制作された、キュンチョメの初期作品のひとつである。
作者は「DO NOT ENTER」と書かれたテープを、海に向かって平行に引いていく。この行為は「津波を止めたい」という願いそのものである。しかし、海に向かって長く伸びた立ち入り禁止のテープは、海風に煽られ、やがてちぎれてしまう。人間には制御不可能なほどに強大な海と、小さな人間の切実な祈りが交差する作品である。
