Flying Carp and Me 　2014

In Japan, when a boy is born, there's a tradition to decorate with gigantic carp made of cloth to wish he will grow up strong and healthy.

 

When I was born, my grandma bought me a flying carp. My carp didn't fly a lot because I grew up mentally sick, dropped out high school, and ended up as hikikomori (did nothing but stay inside the room) for 6 years.

After the Great East Japan earthquake, I found my carp in my collapsed house.

So I tailored my flying carp into a suit, dived into the sky with disappeared wishes.

僕が生まれたときにお婆ちゃんが買ってくれた鯉のぼりをスーツにしました。

夢を託されたその立派な鯉のぼりは、数日間だけ空を飛び、二十数年の間その存在を忘れられていました。

そのこいのぼりを再び思い出したのは、震災でくずれた家からこいのぼりが出てきたから。

空を忘れた鯉のぼりを着て、僕は空を飛んだ。
